The ancient Chinese, like the Egyptians, established long-ruling dynasties. The dynasties of China gained power through strong armies. Likewise, they were shaped by the geography of the region as the mountains kept them separated and the large river valleys provided fertile farming. The Chinese valued three great philosophies: Confucianism, Daoism/Taoism, and Legalism and their main social classes were aristocrats, farmers, and merchants. Both the Qin and Han dynasties created strong central governments. New inventions developed during the Han dynasty which helped to improve the lives of Chinese people.
