Unit Objectives: Students Will Be Able To (SWBAT)
- SWBAT use data to compare and contrast Mesopotamia and Egypt.
- Glue in provided Comparison Chart
- Use the data to answer two provided comprehension questions in their WHN.
- SWBAT check their understanding of the textual information from Chapter 2 by viewing and discussing a PPT and making any necessary corrections to their reading guide.
- SWBAT use resources to add Egyptian map items to their "Nile and Mesopotamia Regional Map", which is in their WHN from Unit 1.
- SWBAT learn about the different social classes of Ancient Egypt and practice collaboration skills.
- Read provided handout related to assigned social class and work within small groups to completed a provided graphic organizer.
- Share information with peers and record peer provided data in order to have a completed social class graphic organizer.
- SWBAT realize why pharaohs had so much power and the duties they were expected to perform.
- SWBAT describe Egyptian religious beliefs.
- SWBAT explore and increase knowledge of the mummification process and understand the importance of pyramids.
- Review reading guide with PPT.
- Supplement book and explore information with British Museum, University of Chicago, Nova, and more.
- SWBAT demonstrate their ability to interpret data by digesting provided information about the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms of Egypt within a comparison chart and then making inferences and/or deductions based on the information in order to answer two provided questions.
- Glue provided kingdoms comparison chart into WHN.
- Read/interpret the chart and complete the two questions within your WHN.
- SWBAT increase their knowledge related to the Kush empire and compare/contrast them to the Egyptians.
- Use Chapter 2, Section 4 of the textbook and work as a large group to complete a Venn Diagram of Egypt and Kush.
- Watch "RIse of the Black Pharaohs" and discuss the rise and controversy associated with the black pharaohs.
- SWBAT practice research and presentation skills while increasing their knowledge about a topic of their choice (must sign up and choice is subject to approval) related to Ancient Egypt by researching, creating an informational poster (paper to be provided by me), and presenting/sharing their knowledge with peers.
- SWBAT demonstrate increased knowledge related to Ancient Egypt by listing at least one key piece of information they learned from each peer presentation within a provided graphic organizer.
- Complete required research.
- Complete an MLA Works Cited document.
- Create and present informational poster.
- SWBAT interact with an informative article and view/discuss information in order to learn about Egyptian hieroglyphics, the Rosetta Stone, and then use hieroglyphic symbols/alphabet to create their own cartouche.
- Read an article from Nova called "Crack the Code" and demonstrate understanding of the content by answering three questions.
- View/discuss Hieroglyphics PPT to learn about the Rosetta Stone and how translation became possible.
