Chapter 4, Sections 3 and 4 Reading Guides

Persian Wars or Persian Women Choice (Option must be earned).
Students who need to still need to demonstrate the ability to locate required information using an informational text will complete the Chapter 4, Section 3 and Section 4 Reading Guides.

Students who have demonstrated required skills and who have earned the option of choice will be allowed to decide if they want to learn more about Persian Wars or Persian Women. They will use the resources provided to complete the assignment as directed. The answer keys for Chapter 4, Sections 3 and 4 will be provided to them so that they have the key information available.

Greek Colonization Game
In order to increase their understanding about how colonization impacted the Greeks and their trading partners, students will participate in a Greek Trading Game simulation and then complete the provided write up sheet.

Alexander the Great or Not so Great?
What does it mean to be a great military leader or an effective ruler? What types of skills, personality traits, and/or characteristics should a person have?
Students brainstorm characteristics of a good leader, review some background information, and then read provided articles to complete the Alexander the Great Note Catcher. Using information they learn, they will decide if Alexander is Great or Not so Great and use evidence to explain their position. If time allows, participate in small group activity - create political ad in support of or against Alexander the Great. If time allows, participate in whole class discussion on what makes a great leader and conduct a take a stand activity. |
