The Mongols were a nomadic people who established the largest land based empire in the ancient world. They relied on their horses and developed sheer military strength, a communication system (called yam) that was much like the Pony Express used in America, paper currency, and since they depended on trade they allowed diplomatic immunity to insure safe travel and thus encouraging trade. However, they were ruthless and brutal to those they conquered.
